Today, 62 associations send an open letter to the European Commission + complaints against illegal data retention in 17 member states.

This blanket data retention is an obligation for telecommunication providers to retain traffic data of all their for several months or years. The Court of justice of the European Union ruled that such a conservation was contrary to the EU law.

We want to apply EU law and strike down all current data retention national frameworks. This way, we send complaints, from 11 different Member States, to investigate and to bring these States before the Court of Justice to sanction each non-compliant Member States.

To explain our action, we are attaching to these complaints a joint open letter supported by 62 signatories in 11 Member States.
